1 & 2 Bedroom ecoPod

The ‘ecoPod’® is a stand-alone off grid capable cabin designed in response to the sun and the natural environment. It incorporates modular design with the use of SIP structural panels, high levels of insulation and strict building orientation philosophy to create a highly responsive yet simple response to eco-building. It comes standard as a 1- or 2-bedroom pod.

ecoPod Features

The ecoPod can be built on site in remote access areas or built in factory and craned in: The modular system means many components are interchangeable and so re-usable. Structural SIP panels provide high degree of insulation, and a high degree of structural strength.

Trusses for the ecoPod® are manufactured to suit the latitude the building is located in. This allows for high strength fixing of the panels for all extreme weather conditions, and seamless integration into the architecture of the building, while maximising solar return. Standard sizes mean that the same building can be moved geographically, and a change of trusses is all that is required.

The floor of the ecoPod® is deep enough to allow for a store of volcanic aerated rock that is heated by an integrated hydronic system and insulated from the ground. The internal wood heater heats the hydronic pipe system and the floor throughout the building. The upper surface is polished aerated light weight concrete panels that release and store heat into the building.

The length of the front eave is adjustable to maximise winter heat gain and summer shading.

Optional North facing deck and covered South facing deck.

ecoPod® is built on just 2 main steel bearers. With just 8 points of entry into the ground. This means that all gradients can be built on just by varying 8 columns. This allows for minimum impact to the environment wherever they are set up.

The roof design is optimised to the install location of the ecoPod®. The Northern half of the is roof is dedicated to Photovoltaic panels and a solar vacuum tube collector for hot water. An onboard battery system and inverter control systems means both, off grid or grid connected systems are possible. Battery storage is always incorporated.

As well as conventional reticulated and septic systems, compostable and cassette toilet systems are options for black water treatment, allowing for low impact remote installations. Grey water can be recycled or filtered through onsite water landscape tools.

Gutters collect rainwater which is stored in onsite tanks. This is filtered and used in the building whether in a remote location or in access to town water. Town water acts as a back up to the tanks. Pumps handle the supply to the house or transfer water to header tanks.
